How to Stay Safe from COVID

Darren Levitt

It’s been a long, hard fight to maintain safety and sanity. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted all of our lives and caused many deaths, but the good news is that help is on the way. Vaccines are being rolled out right now, and many have already been distributed here in San Diego County. Most estimates suggest that the COVID vaccine will be widely available by summertime.

In the meantime, we all need to continue showing vigilance, doing everything in our power to slow the spread of coronavirus… emboldened by the knowledge that the end is in sight.

Three Ways to Slow the Spread of COVID-19

According to the most recent CDC guidelines, there are three core measures that we can all employ to slow the spread of the virus.

  • Wear a mask whenever you leave your home; this protects you, it protects your neighbor, and it helps curb the spread of COVID.

  • Avoid crowds and maintain six feet of distance from anyone who doesn’t live in your home.

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If you can’t do this, use hand sanitizer.

Additional Ways to Keep Yourself Safe

In addition to these core practices, there are a few steps you can use to keep yourself safe until you are vaccinated.

  • Always, always, always make sure your mask covers your mouth and nose completely.

  • Avoid indoor spaces as much as possible, especially ones that are poorly ventilated.

  • If you are sick, stay home, except to seek medical care.

  • If you are symptomatic, isolate yourself from your family members.

  • Get COVID testing if you feel sick or have been exposed to someone with the virus.

  • Remember, if you test positive but feel fine, you can still spread the virus! Quarantine!

Regular testing is such a critical component in all of this, and we’re happy to note that PureCare Pharmacy offers COVID testing in San Diego. We encourage you to learn more by visiting their website, where you can also make an appointment.

The battle against COVID has been tough, but again: We have turned a corner, and better days are coming. Until then, hang in there, practice the core safety measures, and get COVID testing as needed.
